Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele will contest for governorship. But will she run?
That is the big question.
The Ogun State Reformists Group has
formally called on her to present herself as a candidate for the gubernatorial
ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Ogun State
governorship election.
According to the group, this This
appeal follows a thorough and objective assessment of her pedigree,
professional accomplishments, personal background, and outstanding performance
in public office.
"Engr. Salako-Oyedele stands as a
distinguished Nigerian with an exceptional blend of intellect, experience, and
service. A chartered engineer and public health expert, she is an alumna of
globally respected institutions, including the University of Lagos and Imperial
College London. With over three decades of professional experience spanning
engineering consultancy, contracting, and real estate development, she has
demonstrated rare competence in both the private and public sectors.
Born on January 8, 1966, and hailing
from Aworiland in Ota, within Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, she possesses
deep cultural roots and strong grassroots connection to Ogun State. As the
daughter of the late Prof. Lateef Akinola Salako, a renowned academic and
professor emeritus of pharmacology and therapeutics, she embodies a legacy of
excellence, discipline, and intellectual distinction.
As Deputy Governor since 2019 under
the leadership of Dapo Abiodun, she has played a pivotal role in advancing
governance in Ogun State. Her contributions in public health engineering,
environmental sustainability, and housing development have significantly
improved the quality of life for many citizens. Her professional background has
translated into practical, people-focused policies that continue to deliver measurable
impact.
Notably, her leadership style has been
marked by stability, loyalty, and inclusiveness. She has maintained a delicate
and commendable balance between steadfast support for her principal and
respectful engagement with diverse political stakeholders across the state.
This rare political maturity positions her as a unifying figure capable of
leading Ogun State into a more cohesive and progressive future.
Her gender represents a historic
opportunity for Ogun State and Nigeria at large. At a time when the nation
continues to advocate for increased female representation in leadership, her
candidacy offers a credible pathway toward producing Nigeria’s first female
governor. As a Muslim, she has consistently demonstrated religious tolerance
and a commitment to unity, further strengthening her appeal across Ogun State’s
diverse population".
"Engr. Salako-Oyedele’s track
record speaks for itself. Through initiatives such as the “Okowo Dapo”
empowerment programme, she has uplifted countless women, promoted
entrepreneurship, and fostered inclusive economic growth. Her advocacy for safe
environments, equal opportunities, and integrity in governance has earned her
widespread respect and acceptability among the people".
"At 60, she represents an ideal
blend of experience and vitality—seasoned enough to lead with wisdom and
dynamic enough to drive innovation and progress. Despite her evident
qualifications, she has remained modest and non-disruptive, embodying the very
essence of servant leadership.
The Ogun State Reformists Group firmly
believes that Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele is uniquely qualified to lead
Ogun State into its next phase of development. Her candidacy would not only
ensure continuity of good governance but also inspire a new generation of leaders,
