Islamiyat Abiodun Oyefusi has come out for the Lagos governorship race, come
2027. Remember her? Princess Abiodun Islamiyat-Oyefusi is the former Labout
Party’s Deputy Governorship candidate in Lagos State during thelast election.
Princess Abiodun Islamiyat Adetola
Oyefusi, is the daughter of the late Ayangburen of Ikorodu. She holds a Law
degree from the prestigious Aberdeen Law School, MBA from University of
Hull. And currently an Associate of the
Chartered Institute of Governance U.K. and Ireland, and a Project Management
Practitioner Princess Oyefusi is a
renowned politician, humanitarian, and Women Advocate at the forefront of the
actualisation of the equality for women and the women agenda. She was the Labour
Party deputy governorship candidate for Lagos State in the 2023 elections, and
the 2019 PDP Lagos East Senatorial Candidate.
She is current Chairperson SoulLifters
Foundation- the international NGO behind known community outreaches in Lagos
State which are(1) Community Medics- providing monthly medical care, eyecare,
and mental health outreaches in various communities throughout the 20 LGAs of
Lagos State. (2) Community Foodbank providing monthly food banks for the
homeless , elderly, single parents, orphans and the most vulnerable people

Recently, she had a media interaction
and revealed her thoughts on a number of issues. Below are excerpts:
In one sentence, what is your heart’s
greatest desire for Lagosians?
My greatest desire is for good
governance in Lagos, a Lagos where hard
work is rewarded, movement is easy, security is guaranteed, and government
serves the people—not the other way around.
If you can only do one project in one
year as governor, what will it be?
I will prioritize fixing the
institutions of Lagos State to ensure citizens have access to efficient
seamless services, jointly with the transportation and traffic through an
integrated rail, bus, and waterway system because mobility directly affects
jobs, cost of living, and quality of life.
On a scale of 1–10, how well do you
relate with Elders and Traditional leaders?
8 out of 10. I value their wisdom and
community influence while ensuring governance remains transparent and
law-driven. Being a Royal Princess of Ikorodu Kingdom having been brought up
with the understanding and appreciation of our Culture and Tradition. As well
as what it means to be a steward of the people.
If someone close to you cheats the people and
you must give judgment, what will you do?
There will be no protection or
excuses—Justice will be served, stolen resources recovered, and the law allowed
to take its full course. Law and Order must be rebuilt into our consciousness
and society because where the law ends tyranny begins, and a nation whose laws
sanctions and not control criminality on its citizens, that is a country whose
hope is lost.
On a scale of 1–10, how do you agree
with the statement “the end justifies the means”?
2 out of 10—when leaders cut corners,
society pays the price in the long run.
Do you personally prefer electronic
media over print?
Yes, for speed and wider engagement,
but Print still matters for documentation and accountability.
Why should Lagosians pay attention to you?
Because I am offering practical
solutions, disciplined leadership, and a government that listens, plans, and
delivers.
If traders are occupying land meant
for a highway, how will you handle it?
I will engage them, provide
alternatives and timelines, and relocate humanely—development must never
destroy livelihoods without solutions.
Coffee or tea?
Tea.
Indigenization or Westernization?
Indigenization with global standards,
preserving who we are while competing with the world.
